It’s a classic conundrum for ranch owners – choosing the best fencing to surround their property. Wood, wire, metal or vinyl… or concrete? Wait, concrete? YES! Read on to learn how our precast concrete fencing for ranches can elevate and protect your property beautifully for decades to come.
When Jerry Nichols of Blue Sky Ranch in Texas was looking to add fencing to road frontage, he already knew a few fencing choices that he didn’t want. Previously he had several types of fence that just didn’t withstand weathering, so when he saw a magazine ad for Superior Concrete Products’ Precast Rail Fencing, Nichols knew it was a game-changer. Here’s why.

Traditional wood plank rail fencing notoriously fades, shrinks, and warps in the hot Texas sun causing the boards to pop out of place or crack. Over time, the maintenance of this type of fencing increases, which comes at an additional cost. But didn’t you already pay for the fence?
Vinyl fencing products, made from composite plastic, are costly and not eco-friendly. They also aren’t very durable. High temperatures and strong winds can cause the fencing to become brittle and crack or break. Replacing vinyl fencing is tricky because they usually need to be replaced in complete sections due to the way they are assembled. Which adds more cost to the project, yet again.
Nichols had already received a quote for pipe fencing, which was shocking. “I was like, ‘Wait a minute — there’s maintenance on this fence,” he says laughing. “You’re going to have to sand it. The welds are going to give way. You’re going to have to keep painting it.” So, when Nichols opened his copy of Cowboys & Indians Magazine and saw the Concrete Rail Fence in the Superior Concrete Product ad, he called to learn more.
We offer a wise alternative to wood, metal, and vinyl fences that typically rot and rust or easily burn, warp, or crack. Over the life of your new precast concrete fence, the savings simply add up. Our concrete is cured to 5,000 PSI for 28 days, resists fire and insects, does not rot or rust. On the design side, we mix our color choices into the concrete, which means no fading or repainting like wood and metal products. Plus, since the materials are already precast and cured, fence installation goes quickly on-site. The results endure for decades, not months or years like other materials.

As it turned out, Nichols decided to go forward with the precast concrete fence product and the process couldn’t have been simpler. He worked with the Design Engineers who create the designs, shop drawings & site-specific specs. For this ranch project, which spanned about 2,000 LF, Nichols chose the Superior 4-Rail at 5’ high in the Titanium Integral Color. What are his thoughts on his final choice of fencing? “It’s a showstopper. People park in the driveway and walk along looking at the fence. Todd’s organization — all I can say is they’re first-class. It’s the only way to go.” said Nichols.
